Icelandair to retire Boeing 757 and 767 fleets in January 2027

Icelandair plans to withdraw its final Boeing 757-200 and Boeing 767-300ER aircraft from scheduled passenger service in early January 2027, ending the airline’s long-standing operation of both types. The planned final 757-200 sector is from Reykjavík-Keflavík to London Heathrow on 4 January, followed by the 767-300ER’s expected flight from Boston to Reykjavík on 5 January, arriving in Iceland on 6 January.

The timetable represents an acceleration of Icelandair’s fleet transition. The 757s had previously been expected to remain in service beyond the 2027 summer season, but higher fuel costs reportedly prompted the earlier withdrawal. The airline is progressively replacing the aircraft with Boeing 737 MAX jets and Airbus A321LRs.

The 757 and 767 have formed a central part of Icelandair’s transatlantic and European network for many years. Schedule data indicates that the final sectors remain subject to change, and the precise retirement flights should therefore be treated as planned rather than confirmed. The transition is expected to leave Icelandair operating its passenger network with newer, more fuel-efficient narrowbody aircraft from January 2027.
