Virgin Atlantic launches nonstop Heathrow-Phuket service with Boeing 787-9

Virgin Atlantic has begun the first scheduled nonstop service between London Heathrow and Phuket International Airport, using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners on a three-times-weekly seasonal winter route. Flight VS214 departed Heathrow on 18 October, connecting the airline’s London hub directly with Thailand’s leading leisure destination and eliminating the need for passengers to transfer through an intermediate Gulf or Asian hub.

The service is scheduled to operate from mid-October through late March, targeting peak winter leisure demand between the UK and Thailand. VS214 departs Heathrow at 15:45 and arrives in Phuket at 09:55 the following day after a scheduled 12-hour 10-minute flight. Return flight VS215 leaves Phuket at 11:45 and reaches Heathrow at 19:20, with a scheduled duration of approximately 13 hours 40 minutes.

The aircraft assigned to the route has 258 seats, comprising 31 in Upper Class, 35 in Premium and 192 in Economy. The Economy cabin includes 36 Economy Delight seats with additional legroom. Virgin Atlantic’s 787-9 fleet is expected to undergo a future cabin reconfiguration that would increase capacity to 44 Upper Class and 56 Premium seats while reducing standard Economy seating to 127.

The Phuket route was announced almost a year before operations began. The inaugural arrival was reported at approximately 09:54 local time, as Thailand’s tourism sector prepared for the winter high season.
