Lithuania suspects Russian sabotage after attempt to burn Starlink site in Vilnius

Lithuania is investigating an attempted arson attack on SpaceX Starlink ground infrastructure at a Delska-operated site on the outskirts of Vilnius. Attackers tried to ignite nine satellite antennas and a control unit using flammable liquids at about 02:00 on 18 October. The fire was quickly contained, causing minor damage without interrupting Starlink operations or connectivity.

The facility is leased to SpaceX by Lithuanian data-centre company Delska and supports communications used by civilian, commercial and military users, including Ukraine. Investigators found containers ranging from three to 10 litres at the scene. Authorities had warned the company of a possible attack one or two days earlier and increased security, which helped prevent a larger fire.

Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius described the incident as likely Russian sabotage and part of Moscow’s hybrid warfare. National Crisis Management Centre head Vilmantas Vitkauskas linked the suspected objective to disrupting Starlink and, indirectly, Ukraine’s military communications and drone operations. The attribution remains unproven, Russia has rejected the allegations as baseless, and no suspects had been detained by 19 October.

Lithuania has launched a pre-trial investigation and plans to strengthen security and preparedness around critical infrastructure. The incident follows reports of suspected attacks involving Starlink infrastructure in Poland and Bulgaria, although authorities have not established an operational connection between the cases.
