Aeroméxico has signed a multi-year agreement with APiJET to deploy the Digital Winglets 4D real-time flight-optimisation platform across its fleet of nearly 170 Boeing and Embraer aircraft. The Mexican airline’s decision follows an evaluation of the system across its network, with the software intended to reduce fuel consumption, improve schedule reliability and limit disruption from weather, airspace restrictions and surrounding traffic.
Digital Winglets 4D analyses live operating conditions and provides recommendations covering lateral route, altitude, speed and timing. The platform builds on NASA’s Traffic-Aware Strategic Aircrew Requests technology and APiJET’s proprietary algorithms.
The system does not require additional onboard hardware or software installation, which APiJET says supports rapid fleet-wide deployment. Financial terms, the implementation timetable and aircraft-by-aircraft rollout schedule were not disclosed.
Aeroméxico chief operating officer Santiago Diago described the implementation as a way to enhance the safety and efficiency of the airline’s operations. APiJET claims the agreement takes the number of aircraft using Digital Winglets 4D in North America to more than 400. Other named customers include Allegiant Air and Porter Airlines.
