Greece’s Ministry of National Defense has signed a contract for three Embraer KC-390 Millennium multi-role transports, with options for a further three. The agreement was signed in Athens through a government-to-government arrangement between Greece and Portugal. The Hellenic Air Force is due to receive its first aircraft in 2027, adding airlift and air-to-air refuelling capability to its fleet.
The KC-390 will be a new type for the Hellenic Air Force. Greece is the seventh European country to select the aircraft, after Portugal, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic and Sweden. The contract does not disclose its value or a detailed delivery schedule beyond the first aircraft’s planned arrival in 2027; the three additional aircraft remain options, not firm orders.
Embraer describes the KC-390 as a multi-mission platform for transport, airdrop, medical evacuation, search and rescue, firefighting and humanitarian operations. It can carry up to 26 tonnes and can be configured for aerial refuelling. The Greek acquisition is structured through Portugal, linking the programme to cooperation on European training, support and logistics.
