Turkish Airlines agrees to acquire more than 300 LEAP-1B engines from CFM International

Turkish Airlines has signed a memorandum of understanding with CFM International for more than 300 LEAP-1B engines, including spares, to power 100 firm Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and options for 50 more. The Istanbul agreement also covers long-term support for the airline’s entire LEAP-1B fleet and materials to help establish an engine maintenance, repair and overhaul facility in Türkiye.

The service arrangement will include engines already ordered and delivered, spare units, engines installed on leased aircraft and those linked to potential future options. Together with AJet, Turkish Airlines operates more than 600 LEAP-1B engines covered by the planned support package.

The MoU follows Turkish Airlines’ September agreement with Boeing for up to 150 737 MAX aircraft, comprising 100 firm orders and 50 options. Financial terms and a binding engine purchase contract have not been disclosed.

Turkish Airlines Chairman Murat Şeker, Turkish Technic Chief Executive Mikail Akbulut and Safran Chief Executive Olivier Andriès took part in the signing ceremony. The separate material-services agreement is intended to support Turkish Technic’s future engine-maintenance capability in Türkiye.

The airline currently operates, including the AJet fleet, 96 Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft powered by CFM56-7B engines and 79 737 MAX aircraft equipped with LEAP-1B powerplants.
