Frankfurt Airport handled approximately 6.1 million passengers in September, a 1.6% increase year on year, while cargo throughput rose 2.5% to 174,773 metric tons. The growth at Fraport’s principal hub was supported by strong leisure demand and international traffic, although aircraft movements declined as domestic connectivity weakened.
Passenger growth was partly supported by continuing school holidays in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. International traffic performed better across Fraport’s network, while Frankfurt’s domestic traffic fell 25.2%, particularly after services to Bremen and Stuttgart were discontinued.
Aircraft movements at Frankfurt decreased 3.5% to 40,539 takeoffs and landings. The passenger increase therefore came alongside lower operating activity, with the cargo improvement providing additional support for the airport’s overall traffic performance.
Across the airports actively managed by Fraport, passenger traffic increased 2.7% year on year to approximately 21.1 million in September. Frankfurt’s passenger total for January to September remained 0.2% below the comparable period at approximately 47.5 million.
