Ryanair to remove four aircraft from Vienna base and cut 12 routes

Ryanair will remove four aircraft from its Vienna base for the 2026 winter schedule, reducing the station’s fleet from 16 to 12 aircraft and putting about 80 cockpit and cabin-crew positions at risk. The capacity reduction will eliminate ten Vienna routes and two additional services from Linz and Klagenfurt, leaving the airline with around 50 routes from Austria’s capital.

The Vienna routes being discontinued are Copenhagen, Marseille, Tel Aviv, Dubrovnik, Niš, Salerno, Seville, Warsaw, Lanzarote and Riga. Ryanair will also stop flying from Klagenfurt and Linz to London Stansted when the winter timetable begins in late October.

Ryanair has attributed the cuts to Austria’s €12 air-travel tax and higher airport and air-navigation charges. The airline puts the increase in Austrian air-navigation fees at 60% since the pandemic and has criticised Vienna Airport’s cost structure. The move follows earlier capacity reductions at Vienna since autumn 2025, including the withdrawal of services to Billund, Santander and Tallinn.

While reducing its Vienna operation, Ryanair is expanding at Bratislava, where it cites the abolition of Slovakia’s air-travel tax and lower operating costs. Austria manager Andreas Gruber left open the possibility of restoring aircraft and routes if taxes and other location costs become more competitive.
