Ukraine’s Defence Forces struck the Seshcha military airfield in Russia’s Bryansk region during attacks carried out on 6 October and overnight into 7 October, with damage still being assessed. The base is linked to Russia’s 566th Military Transport Aviation Regiment and has been associated with An-124-100 Ruslan and Il-76 transport aircraft, raising concern over possible disruption to strategic airlift and logistics operations.
The strike formed part of a wider Ukrainian wave against Russian military targets inside Russia and in occupied areas of Ukraine. The General Staff did not identify the weapons used or specify exactly what was hit at Seshcha, leaving the operational impact unclear.
Seshcha has also been used previously as a launch site for Shahed-type drones, adding to its value as a military target. Its role as a transport aviation hub makes it relevant well beyond the immediate airfield damage, particularly if hangars, parked aircraft or support infrastructure were affected.
The airfield sits near the settlement of the same name in Bryansk region, close to the border with Ukraine. Any confirmed damage to An-124 or Il-76 assets, or to the regiment’s operating infrastructure, could affect Russia’s ability to move equipment, troops and supplies by air from the facility.
