Syria’s civil aviation authority has granted Fly Dar Airlines an Air Operator Certificate, clearing the private carrier to begin operations and making it the first Syrian private airline to receive such approval since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government. The certificate was handed over at the authority’s headquarters in Damascus, with the airline set to base its operations at Damascus International Airport.
The approval followed a five-stage certification process that took about six months and covered regulatory, technical and operational requirements. Fly Dar is now described as Syria’s third national air operator, alongside state-owned Syrian Airlines and privately owned Fly Cham.
The carrier plans domestic services to Aleppo, Latakia, Deir ez-Zor and Qamishli, although it has not disclosed a launch date for scheduled flights. Fleet details also remain unclear. The certificate fits into a wider push by Syrian authorities to reopen and restructure the country’s aviation sector through private investment and new commercial operators.
