A private drone sighting near Düsseldorf Airport briefly interrupted flight operations on Saturday morning after the tower alerted police at about 09:20. The drone was seen around six kilometres from the airport at roughly 70 metres altitude, prompting a short suspension of arrivals that lasted about ten minutes before traffic resumed.
Police quickly traced the landing site and found the pilot, a 29-year-old German who said he was filming a private celebration. He is being investigated for dangerous interference with air traffic. The state security service was informed but found no indications of extremist or security-related motives.
The incident underlines how a small private drone flight outside the airport perimeter can still force operational disruption and trigger an aviation safety investigation. Düsseldorf Airport maintains a no-fly zone around the field, and violations can lead to criminal proceedings under German air traffic safety rules.
