Brandenburg’s transport minister Robert Crumbach has ruled out any tightening or loosening of the night-flight regime at Berlin Brandenburg Airport, leaving the current BER rules in place. The policy stance keeps the airport’s limited overnight operating windows unchanged, including the core ban on regular flights between midnight and 5 a.m.
Crumbach sees no reason to alter the existing plan-approval decision and only envisages revisiting the issue if BER were nearing capacity limits, which he says is not the case. At present, flights are restricted between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., with narrow exception periods for delays and early arrivals.
The position clashes with pressure from Berlin’s political debate. The Berlin Linke wants the ban extended to 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., while outgoing governing mayor Kai Wegner has previously favoured a more flexible regime. For airlines, the airport and nearby residents, Brandenburg’s refusal makes a near-term change to BER’s night operations unlikely.
