The Federal Aviation Administration has extended its partnership with Solace to support modernisation of the FAA’s System Wide Information Management network, or SWIM, through Enhanced SWIM Cloud Services. The upgrade is designed to improve real-time aviation data sharing across airlines, defence users, air navigation service providers and the public, while adding bidirectional data exchange and faster access to machine-readable APIs.
SWIM distributes flight plans, surveillance data, weather events and airspace notices, and has relied on the Solace Platform since 2011. ESCS replaces Word-file documentation with APIs built on the AsyncAPI standard, giving authorised users a quicker way to discover and subscribe to event streams and reducing onboarding time. The change also allows FAA data partners to publish information back into SWIM, supporting collaborative decision-making.
The extension does not disclose contract value, term length or any change in procurement scope. Its strategic aim is to strengthen the FAA’s data architecture for future AI decision-support tools, analytics and flight-path optimisation applications.
