United Airlines has received the first Airbus A321XLR powered by Pratt & Whitney’s GTF Advantage engines, in a delivery marked in East Hartford, Connecticut. Pratt & Whitney described the aircraft as the first GTF Advantage-powered jet to enter commercial service, giving United an early long-range narrowbody platform as it begins building out its A321XLR fleet.
The GTF Advantage is designed to deliver up to twice the time on wing compared with today’s GTF engine, alongside 4% to 8% more takeoff thrust. Pratt & Whitney also presents the engine as intermixable and interchangeable with the existing GTF family, a feature intended to simplify fleet operations for airlines running mixed configurations.
The delivery adds a production milestone for Pratt & Whitney’s latest geared turbofan variant and underlines United’s role as an early customer for the A321XLR in commercial service. For RTX’s engine unit, the event also advances the rollout of the GTF Advantage programme as the company expands the model across its single-aisle portfolio.
