Iberia has launched the countdown to its centenary in 2027 with a special commemorative livery for selected aircraft and a year-long programme of institutional, cultural and commercial events. The Madrid-based carrier will anchor the celebrations around a major event in June 2027 at La Muñoza, its maintenance complex, the month in which the airline was founded.
The centenary calendar stretches beyond Spain to Latin America, with planned activities linked to Casa de América, FITUR 2027, the Madrid Stock Exchange and Cuatro Vientos airfield. Temporary Espacio Iberia venues are also planned in Buenos Aires, Bogotá, Mexico City and São Paulo.
The programme also includes a symbolic IB100 flight, a book and documentary on Iberia’s history, and the creation of a new Iberia Foundation. Employee and former-employee tributes form part of the schedule, alongside service upgrades including refurbished long-haul cabins and expanded free high-speed Wi-Fi via Starlink.
Marco Sansavini, Iberia’s president and chief executive, presented the initiative in Madrid. The centenary is being used to tie the carrier’s heritage campaign to fleet renewal, customer experience and wider corporate positioning ahead of 2027.
