Global private investment in space companies jumps to $23 billion

Global private investment in space companies surged to $23 billion in the 12 months through June, more than double the $9.7 billion raised a year earlier. A report by Relm Insurance and British investment firm Seraphim, carried by Reuters on Wednesday, shows capital continuing to flow into commercial space ventures as investors back companies with proven operations and revenue potential.

Earth observation, in-orbit manufacturing and satellite supply chains attracted much of the funding, reflecting a narrower focus on business models that can generate returns. The report describes a shift from hype to commercial reality as the sector matures. SpaceX’s June IPO also helped reshape the funding environment and draw in new investors, contributing to the stronger market backdrop for private space capital.
