Berlin Brandenburg Airport briefly suspended flight operations on Wednesday evening after a drone sighting near the north runway triggered a full closure of the airfield. The disruption began around 20:00 local time, expanded to both runways by about 20:20, and ended at 21:05, forcing several inbound flights to divert and delaying services after reopening.
Airport and federal police confirmed the incident, but officers did not find the drone and the type of device or its operator remained unclear. Reported diversions included flights to Dresden and Leipzig, while other arrivals and departures were held up as the airport absorbed the disruption. BER has been hit repeatedly by drone alerts this year, with air traffic control data showing 28 sightings in the first half of 2026, the highest total among German airports and a sharp operational challenge for the capital hub.
