Textron and Merlin unveil pilotless SkyCourier concept for military resupply

Textron Aviation and Merlin have introduced a Cessna SkyCourier UX concept aircraft at the Air, Space & Cyber Conference in National Harbor, Maryland, pairing the FAA-certified SkyCourier platform with Merlin Pilot autonomy software for contested military logistics. The concept targets autonomous resupply missions for dispersed forces, with a focus on cargo and critical supplies on routes where conventional transport is constrained, vulnerable or unavailable.

The twin-engine turboprop concept is pitched for the final leg of distribution networks, including hub-to-spoke military logistics, expeditionary base sustainment, mission-critical repair parts, medical supplies and operations to islands or remote airfields. Design objectives call for fully autonomous takeoff and landing, a payload of about 6,000 pounds, space for up to three LD3 cargo containers and the ability to operate from unimproved runways.

Merlin’s work on the programme will include engineering studies and evaluations intended to build confidence in autonomous and pilot-optional resupply operations. The unveiling positions a major airframe manufacturer and an autonomy specialist around a proven turboprop platform for dispersed and contested operations, but it remains a concept with no production order, certification milestone, delivery commitment or published timeline for testing or entry into service.
