Coulson Aviation advances EmberWorks as aerial firefighting innovation division

Coulson Aviation has moved forward with EmberWorks, a dedicated innovation division focused on aerial firefighting, aviation and emergency response, from its base in Thermal, California. The unit formalises the company’s long-running approach to aircraft and mission-system development, linking frontline operations with engineering, software, testing and new operational concepts intended to improve wildfire response and emergency services capability.

EmberWorks was first introduced earlier this year at the Aerial Fire Fighting Global Conference in Rome and now becomes a structured part of Coulson’s organisation. The division is designed to turn operational problems into new tools and procedures, using live firefighting experience to guide development inside an active global operator. Current work includes ORBIT, an airborne sensing and mission technology stream, alongside Coulson Fire Retardant.

The company plans to expand EmberWorks with additional programmes and partnerships as projects reach development, testing and operational milestones. Coulson has long adapted aircraft and mission systems to meet field requirements, and EmberWorks extends that practice into a formal innovation framework aimed at wildfire agencies and broader emergency-response users.
