Amazon Air cargo jet overruns runway at Miami International Airport, killing five

An Amazon Air cargo flight operated by 21 Air overran the runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday after arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico, struck vehicles near the airport perimeter and caught fire. Five people were killed and five were injured, while the Boeing 767-300 freighter triggered a ground stop and disrupted operations at one of the United States’ busiest cargo and passenger hubs.

The aircraft was identified as Amazon Air Flight 7598, a Boeing 767-300 operating for Amazon under 21 Air’s air operator certificate. Three of the injured were in critical condition, and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue mounted a large emergency response at the scene. The crash affected the area near Runway 30 and the airport perimeter road, where vehicles were struck as the jet left the runway and burned.

Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board began work at the site, with the Federal Aviation Administration and Amazon both involved in the response. Early reporting did not establish why the aircraft failed to stop, and authorities had not yet confirmed whether weather or other factors contributed to the overrun.
