SpiceJet has finalised lease agreements for 20 aircraft as it moves to expand capacity for India’s winter travel season and year-end holiday demand. The mix includes 15 Boeing aircraft and five Airbus jets, with inductions planned between mid-October and mid-November. The airline is targeting around 200 daily flights as it works to rebuild scale through wet- and damp-lease arrangements rather than purchases.
The additions are expected to support both domestic and international operations and could help ease peak-season capacity pressure, particularly on high-demand routes. SpiceJet’s active fleet has been reported at only 11 aircraft, underscoring the pace of the planned rebuild after years of operational and financial strain.
The expansion also fits a broader pattern of rapid fleet recovery through leasing, including a similar winter push in the previous season. One of the aircraft types highlighted in the coverage is the Airbus A321, which can add seats on busier sectors and support higher-frequency flying through the summer travel period that follows the winter peak.
