Retired Turkish Airlines Airbus A340 destroyed in fire at Turkish aviation centre

A retired Turkish Airlines Airbus A340 was destroyed by fire on Saturday at the UçakPark Aviation and Science Center in Çayırova, in Turkey’s Kocaeli province. The aircraft, identified as TC-JDL, had been preserved as a static educational display after ending commercial service.

Firefighters and police were dispatched as flames spread through the fuselage, causing major structural damage. The rear section and tail collapsed during the response, leaving the former widebody heavily damaged. No injuries were reported.

The aircraft was transported to the site in 2018 and assembled as part of the centre’s aviation exhibit. The cause of the fire was not immediately known and remains under investigation.
