Afcom signs preliminary deal for up to four Boeing 777-8F freighters

Afcom Holdings has signed a letter of intent with Boeing for up to four 777-8F freighter aircraft, a preliminary step that is still subject to definitive agreements. The Chennai-based cargo operator would enter wide-body freighter operations for the first time if the transaction is finalised, moving beyond its existing Boeing 737-800 narrow-body fleet.

The aircraft are intended for long-haul cargo missions, with reporting pointing to sectors of around 10 to 12 hours or more and a substantial jump in capacity over Afcom’s current aircraft. The deal would also make Afcom the first Indian carrier to place an order for Boeing’s next-generation 777-8F, while adding another potential customer to the programme.

No delivery schedule, pricing or binding commitment has been disclosed. The planned fleet expansion fits a broader growth strategy that has previously included capital raising to support larger aircraft deployment and international cargo operations.
