Bangladesh’s civil aviation ministry will review nine aircraft purchase agreements linked to Biman Bangladesh Airlines after concerns emerged over possible irregularities in the procurement process. Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat raised the issue in parliament in Dhaka, where he responded to a question from Dhaka-18 MP SM Jahangir Hossain.
The contracts under scrutiny cover nine new aircraft ordered for the state-owned carrier during the previous administration. The government has not identified which agreements will be examined, set a timetable for the review or disclosed any findings. For Biman, the move places fresh attention on one of its largest fleet-expansion programmes and on the contracting process behind it.
The review comes as the airline continues broader fleet planning, with procurement decisions carrying strategic weight for capacity, financing and long-term network development. No operational changes have been announced, but the government’s decision opens the door to possible further action if any irregularities are found.
