British Airways marks 80 years on Hamburg–London route

Hamburg Airport has marked 80 years of British Airways service on the Hamburg–London route, tracing the link back to 1 September 1946, when British European Airways began flying London–Amsterdam–Hamburg–Berlin. British Airways now operates up to 27 weekly flights between Hamburg and London Heathrow, underlining the route’s role as a long-standing business and connectivity corridor between northern Germany and the UK.

The airport framed the service as a strategic link for passengers travelling beyond London via Heathrow’s wider network. The anniversary also highlights the continuity of a route that began under BA’s predecessor and has remained a fixture in Hamburg’s air transport market for decades.

Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ chief planning and strategy officer, was quoted in connection with the milestone. Hamburg Airport described the connection as one of its enduring links to the UK, with some days seeing as many as five departures to Heathrow.
