Chicago will break ground later this year on the first phase of The New Concourse E at O’Hare International Airport, moving the airport’s ORDNext modernisation programme into its next major stage. The project will add 14 gates in the opening phase and is designed to provide the capacity needed for the future O’Hare Global Terminal, while supporting a coordinated expansion of the airport’s hub operations.
The revised construction sequence keeps work moving across the terminal area over the next several years. Under the current plan, Concourse D is due in 2028, the first 14 gates of Concourse E in 2030, the Global Terminal in 2033 and the remaining 10 gates of Concourse E in 2034. When fully complete, the concourse will span about 460,000 square feet and sit west of the new Concourse D.
The facility will be linked by underground tunnel to Concourse D and the Global Terminal and is being planned for regional, narrowbody, domestic and preclearance international flights. It will also include lounges, dining and retail space as Chicago continues the $8.8 billion ORDNext programme.
