Boeing’s largest white-collar union, SPEEA, was due to release results on Friday from voting on a contract offer covering engineers and technicians in Seattle. The ballot closed the same day, after a tentative agreement reached in late July and endorsed by the union’s negotiating team, while the current contract remains in place until October.
The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace represents Boeing’s engineers and technicians, who vote separately on the proposal. Reuters reported that the technicians’ bargaining-unit council recommended rejection, while the engineers’ council did not reach the 60% threshold needed for a recommendation.
The outcome is being watched closely because SPEEA’s membership forms a key part of Boeing’s white-collar workforce. Results were expected by mid-afternoon in Seattle, bringing the company’s labour talks to a new stage before the existing deal expires.
