Flughafen Weeze has started construction of a new arrival terminal at the Lower Rhine airport as it prepares for further traffic growth, with the symbolic ground-breaking held on Friday. The project is designed to expand handling capacity at a site heavily used by Ryanair and follows a 14% rise in passenger numbers to 2.2 million in 2025.
The new building will cover about 4,900 square metres and include a single-level passenger hall of roughly 3,900 square metres with separate Schengen and non-Schengen arrival areas. It will also provide space for local authorities, a waiting area for pick-up traffic and an upper-floor office area of around 1,200 square metres for airport administration.
Airport chief Dr. Sebastian Paps described the investment as preparation for future growth, with the aim of improving passenger flows and working conditions for the institutions operating at the airport. Completion is scheduled for mid-2027, making the project one of the airport’s main current infrastructure expansions.
