Five airports in Colombia have resumed commercial operations after technical inspections following last week’s earthquake, while several others remain restricted to humanitarian, state or medical flights. Aeronáutica Civil has cleared facilities in western and central Colombia, including airports serving Cali, Quibdó, Armenia, Buenaventura, Manizales, Pereira, Cartago and Popayán, as the country restores air links disrupted by the 10 August quake.
The phased reopening follows checks on runway, tower and communications infrastructure at airports affected by the magnitude-7.4 tremor. Pereira had been among the most heavily affected sites, with earlier reports citing runway cracks and air traffic communications failures, while Manizales sustained damage to control-tower windows but retained a usable runway.
Cali had already returned to service earlier, while Pereira and Cartago remained under tighter limits in some reports. The gradual restart is restoring regional connectivity in the Eje Cafetero and surrounding areas, where airport closures had affected passenger and cargo movements across a broad stretch of western Colombia.
