FL Technics has begun operations at its new heavy maintenance hub at Punta Cana International Airport in the Dominican Republic after the arrival of the first Airbus A320ceo customer aircraft. The five-bay facility is the company’s first Americas site dedicated to heavy maintenance and the first centre of its kind in the Dominican Republic.
The hangar covers more than 20,000 square metres and is set up to support Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 family aircraft. Developed with Grupo Puntacana, the site represents a US$70 million investment and has received RAD-145 certification, alongside approval from the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute and the FAA.
JetBlue has been identified as the launch customer for base maintenance at the site, although the operator of the first arriving aircraft has not been named. The new hub adds nearshore maintenance capacity for narrow-body fleets in the Caribbean and the wider Americas, reducing the need for airlines to position aircraft farther afield for heavy checks.
