KLM to launch Grand Café onboard catering concept on European flights

KLM will introduce a new onboard catering concept called Grand Café KLM on European flights from October, giving Economy Class passengers a mix of complimentary basics, pre-order meals and paid menu items. The Dutch carrier is reshaping short-haul service around a hybrid model that keeps a free core offer while expanding choice for travellers who want a fuller meal or more flexibility.

The new concept follows testing across several destinations as KLM refined product selection and operational handling for Economy Class. Complimentary items will remain available, including coffee, tea, water, orange juice and a stroopwafel, while passengers will also be able to pre-order meals before departure or buy food during the flight.

Paid options will include items such as a poke bowl, Caesar salad, salmon egg wrap and yoghurt with fruit and seeds. Bas Gerressen, executive vice-president of inflight services, linked the change to a wider trend among European full-service airlines and to demand for more personal choice onboard.
