Teledyne Controls has launched its GroundLink Edge Computing Platform and AppLink cloud service after securing FAA Supplemental Type Certificate approval for the Boeing 737 series in El Segundo, California. The system is designed to let airlines deploy, update and scale onboard software applications across fleets without aircraft downtime, hardware changes or separate aircraft-level certification for each new app.
The platform is managed through AppLink and supports operator-controlled deployment of applications built in-house, by Teledyne or by certified third parties. Teledyne has positioned the launch as an initial certification step, with approvals on additional aircraft types expected later.
GroundLink ECP combines 5G cellular, Wi-Fi, Ethernet and ARINC 429/717 interfaces with an ARINC 679- and OCI-compliant application server. The architecture is aimed at giving airlines and avionics operators a more software-defined way to handle aircraft data and onboard applications across multiple aircraft in a fleet.
