SPEEA’s bargaining-unit councils have declined to endorse Boeing contract offers covering engineers and technical employees in the Seattle-area commercial aircraft workforce. The Professional council fell short of the 60% threshold needed to recommend approval, while the Technical council voted to recommend rejection, leaving members without a representative-level push to ratify the deal.
The union’s Professional and Technical Negotiation Teams had previously backed Boeing’s latest offer unanimously, but the councils were responsible for deciding whether to recommend acceptance, rejection or neutrality to members. Both councils also voted to place a strike-authorization question on the ballot and approved online voting for the ratification process.
The decision affects roughly 17,000 Boeing engineers and technical workers represented by the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace. The latest step adds uncertainty to the bargaining process as the union prepares the next stage of member voting, although the full contract terms and subsequent timetable were not disclosed.
