IndiGo has launched dedicated freighter operations at Navi Mumbai International Airport with the airport’s first cargo service, using an Airbus A321-200(P2F) registered VT-IKX on a Bengaluru-Navi Mumbai-Sharjah-Delhi rotation. The inaugural movement on 2 August carried general cargo and perishables, placing the new airport into scheduled international freight activity for the first time.
The service gives Navi Mumbai an early role as a cargo gateway for western India and expands freight options in the Mumbai region. The airport had already handled international cargo in passenger belly holds before the dedicated freighter start, but this operation moves it into standalone cargo flying. The routing also links domestic origins with an international uplift point to Sharjah, supporting transfer flows and bonded freight from Indian metros.
The launch comes as cargo operators adjust their western India networks, with some freighter activity shifting away from Mumbai’s main airport. Industry filings indicate that Lufthansa Cargo, AeroLogic, Malaysia Airlines, Air France and Saudia are among carriers expected to move or add freighter services at Navi Mumbai later in 2026, underlining the airport’s growing appeal for freight operators.
