South African Airways and Emirates have expanded their partnership into a reciprocal codeshare, opening access to nine additional routes across South Africa and regional Africa. The agreement adds domestic services between Johannesburg and Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth, alongside regional links to Kinshasa, Gaborone, Windhoek, Lusaka, Harare and Victoria Falls.
The move broadens connectivity through single-ticket itineraries, coordinated schedules and through-checked baggage, while extending network reach without requiring additional aircraft. SAA described the arrangement as a shift from a point-to-point partnership to a beyond model, allowing passengers to connect through Johannesburg onto both airlines’ networks.
The expanded codeshare also strengthens Emirates’ South African feed at a time when African carriers are leaning on partnerships to widen market access and improve feed into hub operations. SAA and Emirates framed the deal as a commercial and operational step that supports traffic flows across southern and central Africa while keeping capacity deployment unchanged.
