Edelweiss has appointed Edi Wolfensberger as its next chief executive, with the handover from Bernd Bauer scheduled for 1 October 2026. Bauer will step down after 12 years leading the Swiss leisure airline, which is part of the Lufthansa Group, while Wolfensberger moves across from the group’s low-cost unit Eurowings.
Wolfensberger has held senior positions within Lufthansa-affiliated aviation businesses, including Eurowings, Brussels Airlines and Lufthansa Aviation Training Switzerland. His appointment points to an internal succession within the group rather than an external hire, maintaining continuity at one of Switzerland’s best-known vacation carriers.
The change comes as Lufthansa Group continues to reshuffle senior leadership across parts of its airline portfolio. Edelweiss, based in Switzerland, operates leisure-focused services and remains closely tied to the wider group structure.
