CFM Certifies Leap-1B Durability Kit and Reverse Bleed System to Double Time on Wing

CFM International secured FAA and EASA certification on 18 July 2026 for its Leap-1B high-pressure turbine durability kit and reverse bleed system, enabling immediate shop-visit and new-production installations. The upgrade addresses 80% of Leap-1B durability issues, specifically doubling time-on-wing in hot, harsh environments like the Middle East and India by extending shop visit intervals from roughly 1.5 to four years. The kit includes upgraded HPT stage 1 blades and nozzles, while the reverse bleed system mitigates fuel-nozzle coking to align maintenance burdens with CFM56 standards. CFM will begin industrializing production now, with a full configuration cutover for new engines expected in Q1 2027, while fleet retrofits will continue through the early 2030s.
