Indra secures more than €40 million in SESAR 3 projects

Indra has secured more than €40 million in innovation projects under the SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking, coordinating ARTEMISA and leading NEURON, two initiatives targeting air traffic management in en-route, terminal-area and airport operations. ARTEMISA will develop open, modular platforms designed to increase automation and interoperability, while NEURON combines tools for aircraft taxiing, surface surveillance, digital towers and airport planning. The combined project value has not been broken down by initiative.

ARTEMISA will pursue EASA Level 4 automation for routine situations, with human supervision and within defined conditions. It is also intended to contribute to iTEC SkyNex. NEURON, under way since June 2026, brings together four airport-operation functions: taxiing optimisation, surface-movement surveillance, visual intelligence for digital towers and collaborative planning. Indra identifies potential efficiency, safety and environmental benefits, but reports no measured outcomes.

The projects involve Indra’s iTEC collaboration with air navigation service providers DFS, ENAIRE, NATS, LVNL, PANSA, Avinor, Oro Navigacija and NAV CANADA. The Canadian provider’s participation extends the group beyond Europe. Indra’s new portfolio also includes NET-TBO 2, ATC-TBO 2, GEESE 2 and RAXUS, which address areas including route efficiency, system resilience and environmental impact.

The work follows SESAR 3’s first phase, in which Indra completed 21 innovation projects and transferred results into operational air traffic management systems.
