Germany’s ISO-Gruppe has completed the installation and integration of its SKYcontrol system at Penang International Airport in Malaysia, equipping the airport’s remote tower project with digital flight strips and ground surveillance. The 14-month project is now in operational-readiness and transfer testing. The system is expected to run alongside the existing tower setup for about two months before the transition to live operations; no start date has been confirmed.
SKYcontrol EFS replaces paper flight strips with digital handling of flight data and clearances. SKYcontrol Ground Track provides information on landing, departure, taxiing and parking movements, replacing the existing approach-radar display. The software is integrated with camera-based views of the airfield and interfaces for flight data and stand planning.
The installation supports Malaysia’s move towards remote tower operations at Penang, located in Bayan Lepas. The parallel-running period is intended to allow testing of the new system against the existing setup before operations transfer to the remote facility.
