Swedavia’s board has ended planning and design work for a proposed new pier at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, before a final investment decision or construction. The airport operator is reprioritising its investment programme after reassessing passenger behaviour, airline requirements, future capacity needs and alternative solutions. Swedavia expects the change to reduce capital requirements and allow key investments, primarily at Arlanda, to advance more quickly, although it has not identified which projects will be accelerated.
The review found other investments more effective for strengthening Arlanda’s competitiveness and maintaining sustainable capacity, according to chief executive Mats Johannesson. The decision concerns the pier’s development work, not a construction project already under way.
Swedavia expects to write down about SEK 1.2 billion in project costs, most of which date from before the pandemic. The charge will reduce fourth-quarter 2026 EBIT but will have no effect on cash flow. The company also confirmed that the decision will not change landing or passenger charges for 2027.
