Belavia Says US Authorised Boeing to Resume Direct Cooperation

Belavia says the US Department of Commerce has authorised Boeing to resume direct cooperation with the Belarusian airline. The licence allows the carrier to obtain software and spare parts directly for Boeing aircraft already in service, and could also enable talks on new aircraft purchases. Belavia disclosed the decision on 31 October. It did not announce an order or purchase agreement, and the licence’s detailed terms have not been made public.

Direct access to parts and software could simplify support for Belavia’s existing Boeing fleet. The scope of the authorisation, including any conditions on deliveries, remains unclear. The reported decision follows earlier US easing of restrictions affecting the airline, while export controls had continued to require separate approval for cooperation with Boeing.

Belavia chief executive Igor Cherginets also described the authorisation to state news agency BelTA. No public confirmation from the US government or Boeing was identified. Whether the airline will enter negotiations for new aircraft, and whether those talks could result in a purchase, is not yet known.
