SpiceJet has added four Airbus A321s on wet lease from Air One Moldova, with the aircraft already in passenger service, and plans to bring in up to four Boeing 737-800s from Smartwings in the coming weeks. The additions form part of a broader plan to lease 20 aircraft and are intended to increase capacity and frequencies during the winter schedule, as the Indian carrier targets around 200 daily flights.
The A321s have brought SpiceJet’s reported active fleet to 15 aircraft. The airline has also taken three Airbus A320s on lease from Cambodia-based Sky Angkor Airways, following the retirement of its last three Boeing 737 MAX 8s. The 737-800s are expected to follow, but their arrival and timing have not been confirmed by a named company spokesperson.
The eight aircraft are part of the 20-aircraft leasing plan, which covers 15 Boeing and five Airbus aircraft under wet- and damp-lease arrangements. Wet leases supply the aircraft with crew, maintenance and insurance, allowing capacity to be added without an outright purchase. SpiceJet plans to use the additional lift to expand its network and increase frequencies during the winter schedule, which runs from 25 October 2026 to 27 March 2027. The target of around 200 daily flights is a planned operating level, not a confirmed schedule.
