Lufthansa flight attendant Alexander Maximilian Theiss died in a suspected electrocution incident at the swimming pool of the Conrad Bengaluru hotel during a layover on 30 October. Another foreign national, Juraj Horvat, also died, while an American hotel guest and a pool attendant were injured trying to help. Police have opened a negligence case against the hotel management; the cause has not yet been established, and technical and forensic findings are pending.
The incident occurred at the hotel’s third-floor pool in Halasuru, Bengaluru. Police suspect electrical leakage into the water, but post-mortem results and technical examinations had not been completed. The case was registered under Section 106 of India’s Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which covers causing death by negligence.
Lufthansa confirmed that a crew member had died in an accident during a Bengaluru layover and expressed condolences, without releasing further personal details. The hotel also offered condolences and said it was cooperating with investigators, while noting that the cause had not been determined. The pool was closed after the incident; the hotel website listed maintenance from 31 October to 30 November.
