The U.S. Department of Defense has issued a further solicitation for construction support facilities for Boeing’s F-47 at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, advancing plans for a projected $1.057 billion Future Campus. The installation is intended to support operational testing of the next-generation air-superiority fighter, although the proposal does not establish Nellis as a permanent base for operational F-47 squadrons or determine the aircraft’s eventual deployment locations.
The campus would be built primarily on Nellis’s eastern side in the northeast Las Vegas Valley. Initial facilities are planned to include a combined operations and maintenance hangar of about 116,000 square feet, a simulator facility of approximately 41,000 square feet, a mission-system reprogramming laboratory and a 1.15-million-square-foot aircraft apron with sunshades.
Potential follow-on work includes a low-observable corrosion-control hangar for radar-absorbent-material maintenance, a fuel-cell hangar, a weapons-load training hangar, additional maintenance buildings and personnel-support infrastructure. The Air Force may select up to four contractors as it seeks proposals covering further project milestones.
An initial award is scheduled for 5 February 2027, followed by design and preconstruction work before major construction. The initial facilities are targeted for completion around 2031, while additional work could continue through 2032. The $1.057 billion figure is a projected programme value rather than an awarded construction contract, and the proposed follow-on facilities are not confirmed as funded or guaranteed to proceed.
