WestJet said on July 30, 2026 that it had issued a lockout notice after receiving a 72-hour strike notification from its cabin crew union. The airline said the notices do not immediately affect operations and do not mean a disruption is certain, while talks with CUPE continue. WestJet said a work stoppage could begin as early as Aug. 2 at 00:01 MT.
The carrier said it is preparing possible operational changes and cancellations if no agreement is reached. It also said it will keep flexible change and cancel policies in place for bookings made between July 30 and Aug. 4, 2026.
WestJet said affected guests would be refunded or reaccommodated if cancellations or delays occur. The dispute is the same cabin crew labour conflict reported on the same day, with the union representing about 4,400 cabin crew and the disagreement centred on unpaid work and contract terms.
