Volaris will drop three domestic routes from Puebla International Airport on 29 August 2026, ending services to Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, León/El Bajío and San Luis Potosí after little more than two months in operation. The Mexican low-cost carrier is simultaneously preparing to open new Puebla links to Acapulco, Puerto Escondido and Chicago O’Hare, with sales already under way and flights due to start on 1 December 2026.
The cuts follow weak passenger demand and low load factors on the domestic routes, based on AFAC traffic data and booking availability checks. The services were launched in June as part of Puebla’s network expansion, but they failed to build enough traction to remain viable. The airline’s decision leaves Puebla with a leaner domestic schedule while it concentrates on markets with stronger leisure and cross-border demand.
The December launch wave also includes a Puebla–Chicago O’Hare nonstop, which would give the airport a new US market link. The route changes point to a rapid rebalancing of Volaris’ network from secondary domestic destinations toward higher-yield leisure traffic and international flying.
