Turkey’s Hürjet completes maiden flight before delivery to air force

Turkey’s first production-standard Hürjet completed its maiden flight on 30 August, after ground and taxi tests, in a milestone for Turkish Aerospace Industries’ supersonic advanced jet trainer and light combat aircraft programme. The aircraft is the first in the configuration intended for delivery to the Turkish Air Force, and it flew alongside the first prototype during an 18-minute sortie over Türkiye.

The flight came on Victory Day, giving the event added symbolic weight for Türkiye’s defence industry. Hürjet, developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries under the coordination of the Presidency of Defence Industries, first flew in April 2023, but the latest sortie involved the initial production aircraft rather than a demonstrator.

The programme is now moving from prototype testing into the build phase for service aircraft. Available coverage confirms the milestone but does not provide technical performance data, certification status or a firm delivery timetable for operational entry.
