A federal jury in the Southern District of Florida convicted Alexander Mamonov, a Florida-based Russian national and former Aeroflot employee, on all 12 counts in a case involving the illegal export of U.S.-origin aircraft parts to Russia and the state-owned airline. Prosecutors valued the shipments at more than $900,000, and sentencing is scheduled for 20 November.
The conviction centres on allegations that Mamonov and co-conspirator Ignat Vakorin misled U.S. suppliers by claiming the parts were destined for countries including the United Arab Emirates and China. Authorities said the scheme ran after Washington tightened export controls on Russia following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
The charges included export-control violations, smuggling, false export statements and money-laundering conspiracy. The case adds to a broader enforcement push targeting aviation supply chains linked to Russia as sanctions and export restrictions continue to reshape access to aircraft components.
