Three passengers hospitalised after illness on Eurowings Rhodes–Düsseldorf flight

Three passengers were taken to hospital after becoming seriously unwell aboard Eurowings flight EW9631 from Rhodes to Düsseldorf on the evening of 18 October. The cockpit crew requested a priority landing for the Airbus A321, registration D-AIDT, which was carrying 212 passengers and seven crew. Emergency services met the aircraft at Düsseldorf Airport, but the incident did not disrupt airport operations.

Medical personnel examined and treated the affected passengers after landing. Eurowings confirmed that all three went to hospital as a precaution, while the remaining passengers and crew were able to leave normally. Ambulances and firefighters had been mobilised after a precautionary mass-casualty alert was raised because the number of ill passengers was initially unclear. A large-scale casualty incident was not confirmed.

The cause of the symptoms remains under investigation. Gastrointestinal infection, including norovirus, has been discussed in media reports, but Eurowings and the authorities have not confirmed a diagnosis or any link to food contamination. No passenger identities have been released.
