LATAM flight cancelled after reported fire at Lima airport

LATAM Airlines Perú cancelled and reprogrammed flight LA2302 after an unforeseen technical event involving an Airbus A320 before departure from Lima’s Jorge Chávez International Airport on 19 October. The aircraft, registered CC-BFS, was scheduled to fly to Piura, but passengers were disembarked as a precaution after smoke and flames were reported near the left wing. No injuries were reported, and the passengers later continued their journey on a replacement aircraft.

Videos circulated on social media showed the aircraft on the apron with smoke and flames near its left wing. The precise source of the fire, including whether it involved an engine, had not been established, and the aircraft’s technical condition remained under investigation.

LATAM activated its safety procedures and arranged assistance and re-accommodation for the affected passengers. The replacement flight reached Piura after a reported delay of about four hours.

Lima Airport Partners confirmed that the emergency was brought under control and that airport operations continued normally, with no reported effect on other arrivals or departures. Peru’s consumer-protection authority, Indecopi, monitored the airline’s handling of the disruption and its provision of clear information to passengers.
